A New Covenant - Part 7 “The Secret Sauce”

1. Jesus established a new covenant, with a new commandment, for a great commission

Matt 5:17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

John 13:34 "A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

Matt 28:18 Jesus said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations… 20 teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

2. Jesus replaced the law that condemned us, by sending his spirit to empower us.

Acts 1:4 Jesus said: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5… in a few days you will be filled with the Holy Spirit."

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

3. From a distance nature appears liberating and beautiful, but up close and personal it’s
limiting and dangerous.

Gal 5:19 The “fruit” acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self- control. Against such things there is no law.

4. In the final analysis, “The Secret Sauce” wasn’t what we believed, but how we
behaved.

Matt 25:31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered in his presence. 34 "Then the King will say, "Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. 36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me."

37 "Then these righteous ones will reply, "Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? 39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?" 40 "And the King will say, "I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!"
